Renowned for a lack of facilities and home comforts, festivals are a place you go to dance, listen to incredible music, and experience once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, throwing caution to the wind as you revel in a field, often for days at a time. But with all this partying, how do you stick to a dedicated skincare routine? Jess is sharing her favourite summer skin care products for festival skin, ensuring your complexion is healthy and radiant while you frolic at a festival.
1. Keep It Simple
When you’re heading to a festival you’re often weighed down with camping essentials to make your stay as comfortable as possible, so streamlining your skincare is essential to keeping your backpack light and easy to carry as you head into the field.
Another point to consider is that the facilities are often very basic, sometimes with no washing area or showers, so choosing skincare that can be done easily at your tent is also worth bearing in mind.
2. Keep Hydrated
Festivals can really take a toll on your skin, a break from your usual routine can wreak havoc with your complexion, especially if you’re drinking, staying out late, and spending full days in the sun. A simple way to counteract this is to stay hydrated, drinking plenty of water and choosing replenishing mists to ensure your skin is hydrated and healthy throughout your time there.
3. Apply Sunscreen
This may seem like a given, but keeping your skin safe throughout the day with a minimum SPF30-rated sunscreen is essential for ensuring your skin stays at its best. Time can pass quickly at a festival and with so much to do, things to see, and places to explore, it can be easy to forget to reapply every two hours.
Opting for a travel-sized sunscreen or convenient sunscreen spray you can put in your bag for the day is the best way to keep your skin safe from damaging UV rays, preventing sunburn as you party.
4. Avoid Heavy Makeup
Often clogging your pores and causing breakouts, heavy makeup is not a great idea for a festival, especially if you’re getting sweaty dancing in the sun. Makeup is going to be on your face all day and long into the early hours, so choosing breathable makeup, a tinted moisturiser, or tinted SPF is the best option for keeping your skin festival-ready, without causing unwanted flareups.
5. Moisturise
Moisturiser is your best friend when you’re at a festival, keeping your skin hydrated while shielding against harmful environmental aggressors. While you’re at the festival, choose a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser and remember to apply a nighttime moisturiser overnight to replenish your skin as you sleep.
6. Try And Get Some Sleep
Essential for maintaining healthy skin, sleep is a simple way to ensure your skin stays healthy and glowing. It’s recommended to make sure you get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night, so hit the tent early(ish), grab yourself some earplugs to drown out the festivities and relax, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be raring to go again in the morning.
