4 Serums to Tackle Skin Discolouration
Although 2020 is a mere two months away (!) we've been thinking back to the beginning of THIS year, when we made our 2019 Skincare Predictions. In particular we touched upon the ingredient we predicted would be big this year,
Tranexamic Acid.
The cooler autumnal months provide the best opportunity to successfully treat pigmentation, as the exposure to high levels of UV is less likely and therefore the potential risk of recurring UV-induced pigmentation is lowered.
What is Tranexamic Acid?
Tranexamic Acid is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine and is used in skincare to diminish the appearance of skin discoloration, improve stubborn brown patches and post-acne marks.
How does Tranexamic Acid work?
Tranexamic Acid is fast becoming one of the most popular skincare ingredients thanks to its ability to interfere with skin's inflammatory reaction that leads to skin discolouration.
Tranexamic Acid works by regulating excessive melanin production caused by an enzyme called Tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is found inside melanosomes, which are synthesised in the skin melanocytes.
Who should use Tranexamic Acid?
Products containing Tranexamic Acid are specifically formulated to treat skin discolouration, making them ideal for those with melasma (including post-pregnancy melasma), pigmentation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation often experienced after acne.
